One of my home goals this year is to finish up our office space. Our house is one of those houses in which the garage was turned into a bonus room. I do wish we had a garage and with our next house that will be more of a priority, but I like having the extra space. This is horrible and I guess shows how materialistic I am, but even with just Josh and I this house feels a little small. I don't know how people do tiny houses, as adorable as they are.
Here is what the room looks like currently-
Right now this bonus room holds boxes, our piano and Josh's computer. My plans for this room are to remove the wood paneling, re-texture and paint, possibly remove the flooring if we can't get the carpet cleaned, build bookshelves on both sides of the doors, and maybe change the light fixture.
The good news is the paneling comes off easily and has sheetrock behind it, the bad news is the sheetrock even behind the paneling is covered with the popcorn texture-bleh, more work.
I want this room to be a bright and cheery, as well as an organized office space.
I bought this light fixture on sale for our kitchen. I love it, but it's pretty long and seems too overwhelming to hang over our small dining room table. I like having the fan in the office, but I feel like this fits more appropriately in this room with the ceiling height and industrial feel I want to add.
I go back and forth with the kinds of book shelfs I want between this kind of look-
I am leaning more towards the pipe ones. They seem a little more cost effective, interesting, and go with the industrial light fixture.
And finally I bought a five dollar filing cabinet at an estate sale and have been wanting to redo it and I can't decide which way I want to go.
What do you think? I'm excited to finally have this room finished and I'm crossing my fingers that it won't be as much work as it probably will be. All of that popcorn scraping...
What are some of your home reno project plans for this year?
