I will never ever pretend to be a super knowledgeable person regarding politics. Honestly, they disgust me. The hate and corruption that takes place is just so baffling to me how widely acceptable it is. I will not pretend that it is okay, just because that is what everyone does in an election, I think it is appalling. For being the bright and educated "leaders" that politicians are, they make such stupid decisions. I would feel so much more drawn to someone that was humble, never said anything hateful about the other person, but just simply STOOD for something.
So now that you know that about me, I'm sure that my opinion of the election outcome is of great importance to you (sarcasm). This really isn't a blog about that. I will say I am honestly unshaken by the results of this presidential election. I'm not overjoyed at who won. I do not feel that we are back in God's favor because of who won (that just makes me laugh). On the other hand, I also do not feel that minorities are, for lack of a better word, screwed because of who won. I do not feel that who won demonstrates that a large group of people are hated, but I do realize that a lot of people are feeling that way.
In flipping through social media this morning I was surprised at how many people are truly fearful and saddened by the results. I thought to myself, " I don't understand why people place so much of their future in either of these politicians. I would not have felt fearful for myself or my safety, more so than I do presently, regardless of who won." Then I realized why I wasn't afraid and would not have been afraid: I have a hope in something so much greater. Although it's used in such a way that it sadly becomes almost cheesy sounding to even a believer like me, Jesus is STILL on the throne.
God started to really convict me this morning to the fact that people are really and truly hurting due to the election results, and in turn it broke my heart as well for those people. It also made me so sad that others, people I know and love, have an "in your face, we won, you lost" mentality regarding the results. I want to offer this- If you are feeling fearful, confused, sad, and scared about who is now president and what will happen in the coming years for our country and for you personally, you are seeking your hope from the wrong thing. JESUS is the ONLY hope we have.
Though it may seem that way to you due to how some believers may act, God DOES NOT delight in your hurting (Psalm 34:18, "The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit"). For those of you feeling genuinely afraid, I am sorry. I am sorry the church has so misrepresented itself for you to feel unloved and fearful. God loves you and wants to offer you the thing that will give you hope! He sees the beautiful people he created and He so desires a relationship with all of them (1 Timothy 2:4-6, the message "He wants not only us but everyone saved, you know, everyone to get to know the truth we’ve learned: that there’s one God and only one, and one Priest-Mediator between God and us—Jesus, who offered himself in exchange for everyone held captive by sin, to set them all free."). Jesus is our hope. It's cliche, but it's just that good, John 3:16-21 states,
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His son to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God."
Here's the breakdown, WE, all of us, every person living that has ever lived and will ever live, is a sinner AGAINST God. If we choose Him we have hope in the future that is to live all eternity in heaven with him, paradise! To live with the creator of the universe, to be a part of that, whatever happens to me in this life, THAT will be my eternity. If we do not choose to follow Jesus, the Bible states we are condemned against Him. And do you see that that is our choice? God is not condemning us to hell, but we ourselves if we do not choose Him. BUT we can CHOOSE HOPE!
It's hard to talk about hell, to think people are actually going there. It's really hard to be honest and say that to those you love and feel are good people. But again, the Bible is so clear that that's what will happen. Because nothing we do will make us a "good person". I feel that politicians are a good example of that. They may be trying to do good for the world, while at the same time throwing out such slander and hate for people, but in our core that is all of us. As much as we may try to "do good" we still have our own hatefulness in our hearts, because we are sinful human beings. God sees this in us, and offers His love, His mercy, and His saving grace to us so that we may HAVE HOPE for our future!
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. —Romans 15:13
But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. —Lamentations 3:21-23
If you feel brokenhearted today, God is near you.
If you are fearful, God is faithful.
If you are confused, God is truth.
If you feel turmoil, God is peace.
If you feel hated, God is love.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. —Revelation 21:4
I really and truly do feel saddened for you that feel broken. I pray deeply that you see this as encouragement and more importantly that you see this as hope. If you want this hope in your life, turn to Jesus. I am not here to argue, no souls were ever won through an argument, but if you are truly seeking answers I would be more than happy to try to point you in that direction.
